Holistic Horsemanship Services

HHS 501C3 provides Equine Assisted Learning and Equine Assisted Activities Therapies to those populations seeking wellness and assistance through various struggles and challenges.

  • Neurologically involved participants, including those recovering from TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Aneurysms, and various cognitively involved clientele.

  • Veterans and Active military personnel from DC, Md, and Va. with a wide variety of diagnoses including but not limited to PTSD, MST Military Sexual Trauma, amputees, and various physical, cognitive, and mental diagnosis.

  • Grief Support Group in collaboration with Blue Ridge Hospice.

  • 1:1 clientele seeking wellness during the struggles and challenges of life.

Sessions involve general horsemanship education based on participants’ level of abilities and goals based on client and family interviews. All activities are adapted and structured towards the client’s goals established at the initial evaluation. Groundwork involves non-mounted interaction with the horses online and at liberty to teach leadership, connection versus control, and partnership.

The program’s Farm Fit component addresses increasing participants’ overall level of physical activity and increasing time in nature and outdoors. This also includes maintaining the general well-being of the herd by cleaning stalls, picking paddocks, moving hay, feed, and bedding, pushing a full wheelbarrow, walking and jogging with horses in hand in a ring, and on trails throughout the woods. We know that time outdoors and physical activity are essential to our overall wellness practices.
